Something to do...

I used to be a faithful little fan of Fred Rodgers, eagerly escaping into his neighborhood over my peanut butter and jelly at lunch time throughout my early childhood. I still think he was a great man who created a safe and comfy place for children to 'come to' every week day.
(and ok, ok, ok...I'll admit it...I still watch the reruns!)

He used to sing a little song that stuck with me as I came to find out this weekend, as the song he used to sing to me wafted through my head like continuous background music. The lyrics went something like this:

Let's think of something to do while we're waiting

While we're waiting for something new to do.

Let's try to think up a song while we're waiting

That's liberating and will be true to you.

Let's think of something to do while we're waiting

While we're waiting 'til something's through.

You know it's really all right;

In fact, it's downright quite bright

To think of something to do

That's specific for you.

Let's think of something to do while we're waiting.

Obviously, my 'feeling' that I was having the baby this weekend was merely a wish, a hope. And so...we found something to do while we're waiting! On Saturday, I packed up the two littlest ones and spent a great day with my parents, while Curt and Rick REALLY buckled down on our kitchen project. I came home to the beautiful sight of obvious PROGRESS (so much of the initial stages of gutting out a room are unseen and so therefore, progress is not obvious). Here are a few pictures of what they have accomplished. I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate all they did, especially since it got done before this little one is born. THANK YOU to the two greatest, handiest men...I APPRECIATE YOU!!!

Christopher and the despised gate that keeps him from 'helping' in the home improvement process. Even wearing his old pop's hat did not earn him admission past the plastic boundary.
Painting the newly hung wainscoating...layer #1My two handsome, hunky handy-men...The mirrored window that will add depth and light to the kitchen. (Thanks to my sister-in-law, Shari, who picked it out as a wedding present for us). A kitche table will stand in front of that window (one that i have yet to find...but know what I'm looking for!). It ain't pretty...but I might as well let you see one of the ways in which I found "something to do while (I was) waiting". I could not WAIT to paint that window sill, as I knew it would 'pop' out from the wall (which is a soft, warm yellow..."whisper yellow" to be exact). Curt will be building cabinets that go on the wall, along with little shelves that will boarder the window. The style (vintage) we chose truly fits the room-and our house-as if it's always been that way.See the light? My very decorating-savvy mom gave that to me for my birthday. It's from the 1920's and she had it rewired for my kitchen. What a true fit to the decor and style. Thank you Mom!!

...And finally, I was able to use the 'vintage' style tins I was given (once again, from mom) for Christmas. I am working on a curtain made from an old, but beautiful tablecloth. I saw it done in a magazine, and now I simply need to figure out how it was done. As I have nary a crafty bone in my body, it will not come naturally.

And thus I will continue to wait. The baby will come, and he or she will come at the right moment. I do not want to waste days being impatient with those I have to hold right in front of me. I pray I will not!
Good night, friend!

The kitchen looks amazing! SO beautiful! I can't believe that Curt did that himself (with Rick's help and yours too). I am so impressed. It really looks like it should be in a magazine. And I love the mirror on the wall. The room looks so much brighter than it used to. It seems like you would have added a window but I guess it's just the paint color...love it. Won't it be fun to use it now! love you! ash
