Dinner at the Diner

My Valentine's Day dinner was very romantic...

We simply sat and gazed into each other's eyes,
while savoring our every bite of exotic food that was served to us
by white-gloved wait staff onto a crisp white tabletop.

There was smooching.

Declarations of love
(and we were told this young man was going to someday marry the gal to his left,
and together, they are going to have 60 babies! Wowzer! Hope they like 'little people'!)

A little more smooching (and a giggle or two thrown in).

"Three Coins in the Fountain" Musak played overhead, and we sat in the glow of red (off the exit sign).
It was beautiful.
It actually...really was.
I barely tasted my food, and chaos was always only
one lost nuk away...but we were together.
Love had brought us here on our first date,
and Love has seen us through to our dinner date with five
results of our love.
Pretty. Darn. Wonderful.

One among us had her first foray into the world of public restrooms: private stalls and groovy soap dispensers. It was her first time going out potty-trained.
She found the experience so enchanting, that she convinced me she had to go. Twice.
Oh, the thrill!

Valentines Day holds many memories and thoughts behind it for me,
none of which have anything to do with 'romance'.
Here are two of them I wrote about in years past:

~One of our daughter, Hope, who began her life in Heaven five years ago tonight.

~The other, my thoughts on 'Valentines Shmalentines"

Whatever your corner holds, know you are Loved by the Creator of this sunrise that did cast such a warm, pink glow over our little corner of Earth this morning.
It was a breathtaking reminder that Hallmark, and I, know so little of the depth,
beauty, creativity, passion and endurance of true Love.

Oh, friend...what a sweet post. I had not read your story of HOPE...and though I knew there were losses, I did not know the details. My very favorite part is the story of when Grace came your way!!! How sweet the Lord is to spin a tale so distinctly in your grief. Precious! Almost equally as precious are the pictures of the family enjoying their romantic dinner together...love love LOVE it. You are a great mommy...the pictures speak volumes.

aww! such a bitter-sweet day V-day is for you...and, i had no idea. but, in reading your story of Hope and Grace, amidst tears, i could sense and i know that you, sweet friend, are making beauty from ashes.
your crew is so cute..and, like you guys, we did the 'fine dining' thing too last night; Costco hot dogs and fountain drinks are *hot stuff* for our kiddos!! we had celebrated alone on Friday night, and last night, it was so fun to spend the evening with, like you said, '3 little results of our love'.
happy day friend!!

Mornin'. Everything you wrote is very true and a good reminder of that grace for the moment truth.
Yet, it is for those who go through life without knowing God and His comfort that make me wonder how they can face another day. Still God's grace, I guess, just lacking the intimacy and comfort of knowing the grace and comfort comes from Someone so loving.
